2018 Mazda BT-50 Brief Review

Mazda’s new generation pickup truck will be a totally different vehicle from everything you used to see in the past. That’s because the Japanese car manufacturer decided to change the existing collaboration partner Ford with Isuzu. Even though the current BT has a lot in common with today’s Ranger, the truck is not too popular. That might change when the Isuzu-based 2018 Mazda BT50 arrives sometime next year.

2018 Mazda BT-50 Specs and Features

According to our insider, the redesigned pickup truck will feature completely new bodywork. The manufacturer has in mind to build a car-like truck which is going to be very capable but made in El Camino style. Though Mazda will definitely lift its BT higher from the ground, so the pickup will be able to serve as a regular car and capable off-roader at the same time.

Performance wise, the 2018 Mazda BT-50 will either use Isuzu’s powertrain or Skyactive technology or even both. The main reason for the collaboration is Mazda’s lack of a platform for the truck. However, they might reconsider to add some of the capable engines from Isuzu as well. Moreover, some rumors claim that the new generation Mazda BT could even get a plug-in hybrid powertrain, but we are not so sure that’s going to happen right away.

In any case, since it’s going to compete in the same segment as the Honda Ridgeline, the 2018 Mazda BT-50 will most likely feature the same price, which is a little bit south from $30K.
