2018 Mazda CX-3 Redesign

The newest 2018 Mazda CX-3 is undoubtedly among the most entertaining and sporty-looking entries in the subcompact-SUV segment. Even though it doesn’t have an impressive amount of interior space or features, it still shines with its upscale feel and handling. This edition marks an improvement over the current one thanks to its engine as well. Despite being the exact same variant, this engine will provide greater fuel efficiency, due to some notable enhancements. All in all, the CX-3 looks like a formidable opponent to the Fiat 500X, the Kia Soul, and the Honda HR-V.

2018 Mazda CX-3 – Exterior Look, Design and Update

It is no secret that leading subcompact SUV manufacturers put great emphasis on making their models as athletic as possible. Just one look at the 2018 Mazda CX-3 is enough to see why this model is so widely praised for its looks. Its design comes across as a near-perfect blend of practicality and beauty.

The new CX-3 sports an attractive coupe-like cabin, along with traditional athletic proportions. It is also distinguished by its slightly redesigned grille and a large number of flowing lines. In a way, this SUV looks pretty much like a larger Mazda3 hatchback. However, as we’ve said, the blend of practicality and beauty is “almost” perfect. The issue here is CX-3’s rather small size, which lowers the car’s level of practicality by offering less cargo space.

Interior styling and tech equipment

Inside, the 2018 Mazda CX-3 offers lots of comfort and convenience but it doesn’t truly impress. The overall styling is perfectly fine, if not a bit monotonous, at least when it comes to the base model. However, while this one features the somewhat dull black-cloth upholstery, premium models do add a bit of variety. This is mainly thanks to the introduction of Lux Suede and Leatherette materials.

Additionally, there will also be soft-stitched materials, as well as some wood trims. In general, the CX-3’s cabin looks fairly sleek and modern for the car’s price. When it comes to the available space, this model is capable of accommodating up to 5 passengers. However, headroom and legroom are pretty modest, and there are around 13 cubic feet of cargo space. In the tech department, things look much better. The cabin comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen, a heads-up display, voice command, automatic climate control, BOSE audio, and more.

Engine Specs and Performance under the hood of 2018 Mazda CX-3

The upcoming 2018 Mazda CX-3 comes with the same engine that the 2017 edition has, albeit a slightly upgraded one. This is a 2.0-liter inline-4 engine, which is capable of delivering 146 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque. Even though these numbers are far from impressive, it is more than enough for the car’s size and weight.

With it, the CX-3 can reach a decent top speed of 120 mph and go from 0 to 62 mph in around 8 seconds. Where this engine truly shines is its fuel economy, which is rated at 29/34 mpg with an FWD, and 27/32 mpg with an AWD. For transmission, we will see a single 6-speed automatic gearbox.
