2018 Mazda CX-5 Redesign

Earlier this week, we had a look at the 2018 Mazda CX-5 that receives the brand’s most recent KODO design language and a couple of new elements. With just a year under its belt, it is unlikely that the CX-5 gets immense alterations. However, it rides on a considerably overhauled version of the current platform. For that reason, the new compact crossover is likely to rank as one of the most attractive models in the marketplace. The makeup comprises a bolder style and is sportier than many of its peers. Seemingly, this combination serves it perfectly.

2018 Mazda CX-5 – KODO Design Language

The exterior of the 2018 Mazda CX-5 carries on with the same looks brought by the incumbent edition. It features the newest iteration of the KODO design language, which presents a lower and smoother hood. Also, the external design includes thinner and extended headlights alongside 0.4-inch-wider front and rear tread.

This time around, A-pillars are slightly pushed back by almost 1.4 inches. There’s a three-dimensional grille as well as a more rounded rear entrance. The exterior portion looks a lot more revolutionary with Mazda’s five-point grille. Headlights sit on top of grille’s edges, and they appear to complement the upper lip.

Premium Interior

Inside the 2018 Mazda CX-5, we anticipate no tremendous changes again. The overall looks reflect the new and premium appearance showcased on the current model. We also have a raised center console and improved visibility in the cabin. The car’s cabin hosts two-step reclining rear seats and the latest infotainment system comprising a transposed seven-inch center display.

The spacious rear seat gets up to 39.6 inches of legroom, while cargo capacity is 30.9 to 59.6 cubic feet. The latter is achieved when the seats are folded. We expect the standard features to remain unaltered. In that case, standard goodies will include LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, two USB ports and a four-speaker stereo system.

Improved Engine

The Mazda CEO Masamichi Kogai told that the inbound 2018 Mazda CX-5 receives the newest generation of Skyactiv technology known as Skyactiv 2. We anticipate the redesigned CX-5 to bring improved variants of the present 2.5-liter drivetrains. The new motor will obviously convey a few more horsepower and better EPA ratings.

The Front-Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive options will become available, plus the new CX-5 model continues to supply a manual transmission.

Launch Date, Cost and Rivals

The updated 2018 Mazda CX-5 arrives in November this year. We expect its price to remain close to the incumbent version. The entry-level package starts at $25,000 with more equipped variants topping out at $35,000.

It will take on the likes of Chevrolet Equinox, Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, Kia Sportage, Nissan Rogue, Toyota RAV4, Jeep Cherokee, Subaru Forester and GMC Terrain among others.
