The Brand-New Platform For Mazdaspeed 3 and Mazdaspeed 6 Models

Despite their overwhelming popularity, it would seem that the new Mazda 3 and 6 models will not get their new, high-performance versions soon. As it turns out, the Mazda has giant plans for the next generations of these models. So, the newest models – 2018 Mazda 3 hatchback and 2018 Mazda 6 won’t have the same platform as upcoming Mazdaspeed 3 and Mazdaspeed 6 models. It was confirmed that these upcoming models will feature a brand-new platform. This one will be specifically designed to accommodate the new powertrains and allow the Japanese engineers to drastically update the exterior designs of these models.

What can we expect from Mazdaspeed models right now?

Until the production starts on the brand-new Mazdaspeed 3 and Mazdaspeed 6 models, the Japanese automaker will focus more on the research and development of the next generation of the Skyactiv engine family. This information was confirmed by the North American branch of the Mazda Corporation, which will also spearhead this development effort.

Skyactiv Engine

According to the officials of the North American branch, the Mazda’s research and development department will be fully focused on developing and delivering the next generation of the Skyactiv engines. They have also confirmed that these engines will be the only options for the upcoming Mazda 3 and 6 models. This is mainly because the company doesn’t plan on developing and producing other derivatives. When it comes to the MPS variant, the Mazda’s officials view it is an iconic model. It will be the one that will define the entire generation of performance models in the future. Because of this, it will come at a later stage.

The future of Skyactiv technology

When it comes to the new engines themselves, the Mazda aims to take the Skyactiv technology to a whole new level. According to the latest info, these new engines are designed to cut fuel use by a whopping 30 %. They will also go without the use of spark plugs, as well. This will make the combustion more efficient in comparison to using conventional spark plugs.

The upcoming Skyactiv engines will also have substantially reduced emissions, as well. This feature will make them very eco-friendly and suitable for a large number of car models in the future.

A bright future for Mazda

The Japanese automaker’s goal is to turn its brand into a much more sophisticated, upscale and mature one. Therefore, the newest models and Skyactiv engines are viewed as the keys to that transformation. According to the latest info, we shouldn’t expect these models until 2020 or 2021. Each Mazda car is equipped with best technologies that every car must have.
